The labels of the different equipments have recurring elements and a layout which is not changed over time: a series of arrows of increasing length and of a different color; each arrow is associated with a letter indicating the energy efficiency class; They are usually only 7 visible arrows with the respective letters. The manufacturer’s name or brand and model identification are always present, together with an indication of the annual consumption of electrical energy in kWh.

Since 2010 we introduced new elements:
• three new energy classes (A +, A ++, A +++) added to the traditional scale from A to G,
• linguistic neutrality, since the texts in the various languages of the European Union were replaced by pictograms that inform consumers at a glance on the characteristics and energy performance and functional equipment. The only exception, right now, the label of lamps and lighting.

Ceteris paribus the technical characteristics or the performance of the devices with lower power consumption have a shorter green arrow, those with the highest consumption have longer red arrow. Depending on the grade of technological development of the type of equipment the letters may vary up to A +++ and down from G to D.

The label also contains information on the technical characteristics as volume and carrying capacity, and functional performance as the efficiency of centrifugation or drying. Even for the functional performance have been created efficiency classes, identified by traditional letters from A (best) to G (worst) which are written in the label inside of the pictograms.

The practical meaning of the signs “+”, in terms of improved energy efficiency, varies from product to product:
• Refrigerators and freezers: models in class A +++ is 60% more efficient than class A models
• Washing machines: models in class A +++ is 32% more efficient than class A models
• Dishwasher: models in class A +++ is 30% more efficient than class A models

For some equipment specific Community legislative acts established minimum requirements for energy efficiency in order to be sold:
• the energy efficiency class A + is the minimum for refrigerators and freezers, from July 1, 2012
• the energy efficiency class A is the minimum for washing machines, from 1 December 2011; The class A washing efficiency is the minimum for equipment with capacity of more than 3kg
• the energy efficiency class A and washing efficiency is the minimum for the standard-size dishwashers, from December 1, 2011
